Hector Abrahams Architects - March At Home with the Architect

We will be visiting a house in Erskineville for our March At Home with the Architect tour.

The project, 'Black Line House' has been renovated by Hector Abrahams Architects, a Sydney-based practice whose aim is to create liveable and accessible buildings that look great in their setting and age well.   They work with old and new, big and small, private and public buildings from all types of architecture.  Their particular focus is on the conservation, adaptation and re-use of buildings as well as the design of new buildings within a historic precinct.

The house is a classic small two storey terrace house.  The client wanted to stay in this house but needed to create space for family living.  Being one of a terrce of four located in a conservation area, the house is part of a larger structure, so the changes had to work within what existed.  The house had already had many changes to it.

This months NSW At Home with the Architect, takes place on Sunday 19 November and visits an award winning house in Castlecrag designed by Neeson Murcutt Architects.

Meet architect Rachel Neeson and her clients and learn about how the new residence was designed to incorporate aspects of the original house built by the client's grandfather.

Organised over four levels, the house has been designed with a desire to provide the experience of living in harmony with nature. The site has three particularly special qualities – a beautiful sandstone outcrop to the street, an adjacent bush reserve, and tranquil water views to the bay.
