Don't miss a special @home on Sunday 13 September when we will explore twentieth century modernist residential design. Canberra is one of Australia’s best places to discover mid-century modern and modernist residential architecture. The city’s rapid development during the post-war decades created opportunities for architects to experiment with new ideas about contemporary living, landscape, materials and construction.
This months @home takes place on Sunday 30 August, visiting a new home in Queens Park, designed by Porebski Architects. This residence is shaped by its east–west site, where light becomes the primary design material. An L-shaped rear plan gathers northern sun and draws it deep into the home, while an off-form concrete skylight and double-height windows cast daylight through the centre, binding kitchen, dining and living into a single luminous sequence.

On arrival, visitors were greeted by a freestanding cottage and a paved front garden animated by colourful potted plants and statues. A magnificent magnolia tree from the neighbouring property added a generous, borrowed landscape to the setting.
Over two hours discover two hundred years of Sydney’s built history. An Australian Architecture Association trained tour guide will help you to discover how architecture has helped shape the landscape of the city. The Ultimo Architecture as Art walk takes place on Saturday 12 September. Ultimo is one of Sydney’s most fascinating inner-city precincts, where layers of Aboriginal, colonial, industrial, educational and contemporary architectural history sit side by side.
On Saturday 19 September take to the outdoors and explore architecture on the Chippendale Walk. Each AAA guide provides a unique insight into the character of the area, their individual passions enriching the tour narrative.
