This month's NSW At Home with the Architect visits a contemporary eco-house in Newtown designed by Steele Associates. Heralded as Australias’ first green-roofed terrace, the development of three attached residences was officially opened by the Hon. Rob Stokes, Minister for Planning, on Thursday 14 April and sets a benchmark for an alternative approach to sustainable urban living.
The houses feature native living roofs, are solar powered, have motorized retractable glass roofs, Japanese burnt timber cladding and many more uber sustainable features you will see on this very interesting visit.
Steele Associates founder and director, Oliver Steele, who is both a qualified builder and architect, explained that ’…The aim is to demonstrate to the property industry that it is possible to deliver exceptional sustainability outcomes within a conventional business model. This is Oliver's life's work.
Oliver has spent the past 20 years buildng up his design and construction business and has won many awards with the aim of bridging the gap between a productive economy and a healthy environment.
