The Australian Architecture Association has a very special 'At Home With The Architect' on offer in June. This month you have the opportunity to visit two privately owned historic residences designed by Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin. Explore Fishwick House and Felstead House, located in the delightful leafy suburb of Castlecrag.
The first house to be featured on the day is Felstead House, which was the Griffin's first private commission in Castlecrag and was built in 1924. The house is quite different to other Griffin / Mahony Griffin houses in the area, in that it utilised the Griffin's design for a modularised concrete block construction system - that is referred to as 'knitlock'.
The second residence Fishwick House, was another private commission constructed in 1929. Built from locally quarried sandstone blocks and situated on a steeply sloped, elevated site with expanisve views across bushland to the harbour, the house is regarded as one of the finest and most in tact Griffin houses.
Location: Castlecrag, NSW
Please note that the addresses of the first residences will only be forwarded to ticket holders in the days immediately before the tour.
