The announcement of ‘Black’, the AAA’s new international speaker series and its first speaker, Swiss architect Peter Zumthor is creating somewhat of a buzz. Building Product News carried this article announcing the talks in its August 2004 edition.
An event was held on 12 August to celebrate the cultural partnership between the AAA and Bluescope Steel and to launch the Black Series. Harry and Penelope Seidler very generously opened the Penthouse for the occasion and we invited RAIA Presidents to join us in the celebration.

Ian Perlman is working with us developing the tours that will be offered for the first time in October during Architecture Week to coincide with the visit of the Chicago Architecture Foundation President. Stay tuned for more information…
Lynn Osmond, President and CEO of the Chicago Architecture Foundation will present the lecture ‘Bringing the public to architecture: what an organisation like the CAF does for its community’ in Melbourne on World Architecture Day, Monday 4 October, and in Sydney on Wednesday 6 October.
As this is Architecture Week her visit will conclude with a public workshop on ‘Becoming an architecture tour leader’ on Saturday 9 October followed by a tour.
‘Thinking about how we build and how it impacts on our lives is at the core of Peter Zumthor’s work. His visit is timely, because his buildings are not designed to a formula, they are considered in every way, from their location on the site, the materials used and the consideration of the people who use them.’ — Glenn Murcutt.
Peter Zumthor tickets can be booked on 02 8256 2222 (Sydney & Melbourne tickets).
The lecture titled ‘The magic of the real’ is being held in Sydney on Sunday 5 September and in Melbourne on Tuesday 7 September. Tickets are $75.00 non members, $50.00 members and $37.50 founding members.
