Join the Balmain Walk on Saturday 18 July to discover some of the architecture in this charming inner west urban village. AAA volunteer tour guide and architect, James Allen, will lead you on a two-hour journey through Balmain's streets.
Balmain is named after Dr William Balmain the First Fleet assistant surgeon, who was given a colonial land grant in 1800 on the traditional lands of the Wangal people. Located on a peninsula surrounded by Port Jackson, Balmain sits adjacent to the suburbs Rozelle, Birchgrove and Balmain East.
Originally a working class industrial area, the suburb has grown in affluence and is unique in character.
On the tour James will share insights into the suburb’s unique built environment. You will learn about architecturally significant residences and notable local landmarks.
The tour commences at The Balmain Ferry wharf.
